Your car hitting 10 years? COE coming up? Or maybe just time for an upgrade?
Before you make your next move, ask yourself one simple question:
How much is your car worth today?
That number matters more than you think.
It affects:
- How much you can afford for your next car
- Whether a trade-in offer is actually fair
- Which options and how much cash you can put back into your pocket
Get a clear, accurate valuation first — then decide your next step with confidence.
How Car Valuation Works in Singapore
Unlike most countries, your car’s value in Singapore isn’t just about age and mileage. Here, two government-linked components play a major role, PARF and COE. They can significantly impact how much your car is worth when you sell or scrap it.
PARF Rebate — this is the portion of your Additional Registration Fee (ARF) you can get back when you deregister your car. The key factor here is timing: the earlier you deregister, the higher the rebate.
It’s also important to note that under Budget 2026, PARF rates were significantly reduced for cars registered from February 2026 onward. If your car was registered before that, you’re still entitled to the older, more generous rebate structure — which could make a big difference in your car’s current value.
COE Rebate — this is the pro-rated refund of your unused Certificate of Entitlement (COE) when you deregister your car.
This amount is fixed based on your COE and remaining tenure, and it comes directly from the LTA — regardless of what any dealer offers you.
Together, these two figures form your car’s floor value — the minimum amount you should reasonably expect to walk away with. Anything above that comes down to the market: your car’s condition, mileage, model demand, and how you choose to sell — whether it’s trade-in, direct sale, or consignment.

Option 1 — Scrap Your Car
Scrapping means deregistering your car with the LTA and handing it over to an authorised dismantler. You’ll receive your PARF and COE rebates, plus a body value from the scrapyard.
Best for: Cars at or near the 10-year mark, or vehicles with high mileage and condition issues that make selling difficult.
What you get: PARF + COE rebate + body value (typically $1,000–$5,000 — often higher for popular models from brands like Toyota and Honda).
Simple, predictable, and usually completed within 1–2 weeks.
Worth knowing: If your car still has meaningful COE remaining, scrapping may not be the smartest move — options like trade-in or direct sale can often bring you a better return.
Option 2 — Trade In Your Car
Trade-in means using your current car as part of the payment for your next one. The dealer assesses your car’s value, reduce cashout for the new car, and you complete everything in a single transaction.
Best for: Buyers who want a smooth upgrade without the hassle of managing a separate sale.
What you get: Typically around 60–75% of market retail price — lower than a private sale, but you save significant time and effort. The value is applied directly to your next purchase, helping to reduce your loan amount and monthly repayments.
No single answer fits everyone. It comes down to your car’s remaining PARF, how quickly you need to move, and what you plan to do next. The smartest first step is simply knowing your number.
